Keep me posted
Man test for training move the old posts from the top of the hill to the bottom for cutting. Half an amble round the bonsai mountain in the dark. Hardly proper training. Need to get organised.

Same again Sam
Same as yesterday anticlockwise wet windy trudge around the Bonsai Mountain in the darkness. No records broken, but a lot of fresh air and thinking time.

Accidentally on purpose
Finally a week of sloth has ended by a fairly rapid amble in the dark anti clockwise around the bonsai mountain. Saw a badger. It saw me first. No stats. Heart monitor strap still in a safe place.

In to deep
Managed to get some decent pulse raising training done, a "quick" trip up to the Whet Stone in the white stuff which at times was well over the tops of my wellies.
Contrary to popular myth the Whetstone does not go walkabout at night time. 1 hour to get there 15 minutes to run back, say run, its run in wellies and try not to trip over dogs.

Metal fatigue
R200's poor performance on Sunday has been traced to source, metal fatigue, the derailleur has parted company from the rest of the bike locking the back wheel. Not good, especially in traffic, but at least I was going slow. 5 mile ride is all today.

Rest day
Bike maintenance. This means spray with WD40 and wonder what sounds knackered wheel bearings make.

Start to finish
The day started like this and ended like the pic below.
It was a bit on the cold side first thing but me in my Mamil outfit fared better than my companion Ash who was wearing shorts and fingerless gloves. Asked how his hands were at the 5 mile mark I was reassured they were fine as they were totally numb! I must change my pedals to SPD ones that are in the cupboard and given the amount of times my chain slipped etc then some essential maintenance is needed on R200.
Numbers, 28 miles, 1.5 hours.
Give or take.
3 mile load carry 40 lbs.
Found a website detailing 3 peaks extreme, the same challenge as ours but in 48 hours?!!! No mention of how they got on.

Out of power
Decided that Red MTB was the bike of choice today from the stable as it undoubtedly is harder to ride than R100 or R200 and so I would get a better pre and post work workout. Not wrong there, massively slower, harder to pedal and to some extent BORING. Glad actual challenge will be on a F1 race machine. Journey in in glorious sunshine journey back in darkness and then total darkness as first front and then rear lights ran out of power. Thankfully only 200 yards from our dead end lane. And then it began to rain.
10 miles.

Epic Fail
Return trip from work on red MTB, had an insane idea to ride up the 2.5km 1 in 4 ascent to Hergest Ridge, cross it and ride down the other side to Rock HQ. Epic fail, got 1/3 the way up and rolled back down lungs blowing out of my arse. Will return when 3 stone lighter and 10x fitter. Forgot how heavy the MTB is compared to the racers. Slow ride home in rain.

Uphill battle
Long way home on R200 15 miles quick time in freezing cold, feet like blocks of ice at end. Stood in pedals on most of the uphills just for fun. No brakes on downhill sections.
Cold feet. Sore left ribs. Think arm injury of old is causing problems.
Entry for BBMC 2013 sent in.

Arduous training
Moved two bales of hay and straw from one end of the smallholding to the other. Might not sound too difficult but these are the big round bale types not the little square carry in one hand type. 1.5 hours carrying. Boring.

Bike park
The office is looking like a bike park as I have left the Red MTB and R200 (and a scooter but thats another story) behind my desk. Reason being I had to ride in and car back. Twice. The scooter was delivered. So 5 miles today.
New delivery of lycra today.

Felt like it
Felt like spring, felt like training, had too many distractions, realise 6 months probably wont seem like long enough to train for this challenge. But when has lack of preparation ever deterred me? Back on bike tomorrow. Bought more Lycra.

Pack Horse
Exploited small human, or exploited by a small human, either way meant 2.5 miles load carry with 40 or so pound wriggling on back.

For the shire!
Another there and back again ride in complete Mamil mode. Fine day, dry tarmac for a change, dark ride home, lights fantastic.
Sore left knee.
10 miles total.
Have persuaded several other mugs to join me on the Kington Sportive :) 14.7.13

Between the wheels
Back in the saddle of the badly set up R200 but it felt like I was flying, the fastest inbound to office ever, then on the return leg a slight clue as to why, now head to wind it felt like I was riding through treacle! Did have the over taken not over take dilema again with a knaclered tractor. 10 miles total. Same again tomorrow.
In bidding war for replacement SU70
Researching turbo trainers, nearly bought an Elite one as its half price from Halfords

Research day
No training. Researched turbo trainers. Had useful text msgs off cycling guru Sara who is about to be the CTC adviser on Mamil culling advising turbo trainer over exercise bike. New parts for exercise bike seem unlikely to be available as the tech spec handily emailed has end of line stamped all over it. One has surfaced on ebay but the nice man selling it wants more than my racing bike cost and more than you can buy a refurbished exercise bike for.
Less research more training tomorrow.

New years resolution
Started as I mean to go on, avoided all exercise and stuffed myself on tasty treats.
